We now know that 24 hours without sleep, or a week of sleeping four or five hours a night induces an impairment equivalent to a blood alcohol level of .1 percent. We would never say, ‘This person is a great worker! He’s drunk all the time!’ yet we continue to celebrate people who sacrifice sleep for work.

The great LG>bt robbery

anotherlgbttumblr:

To call your organization LGBT and then spend 99% of your efforts on the LG is a robbery.
You rob me of my time and energy when you keep inviting me to fun ‘LGBT’ events and movie nights and then have nothing there about people like me. You rob me an audience when you create all-cis LG pannels on ‘LGBT issues’. You rob me of a voice when you hog the spotlight.

But
Let’s mention it for once
You also rob me of MONEY

Be it donations of government subsidies, when funds are given for LGBT efforts and you spend them on LG efforts you rob me of the change to use those same funds to fight for people like me. Governments and donors like to deal with large broad organizations so it makes sence that they choose the large LGBT organizations that used to call themselves Gay and Lesbian organizations and not the local bi-trans alliance.
Gay and lesbian organizations know this. Why do you think they all changed their name to ‘LGBT’ when they clearly have no interest in actually doing anything for us? They saw rising bi and trans organizations and they knew those organizations could go after the same money they were getting. That’s why they chose to represent all of us, but in name only.
And it is damn hard to find funding for trans efforts now because every fund available gets spend on the big established LG(bt) organizations. “Why fund a seperate trans effort? We gave to an LGBT cause so we’ve done our bit!”

So please, call yourself a Lesbian and Gay organization if that’s what you are. Change your name again. Admit your exclusion. Because right now you are not ‘slowly improving’, you are making it harder for bisexuals and transgender people to find or create organizations that actually support them. This isn’t baby steps forward, this is a robbery.

The Milky Way rises over the Wairarapa on the North Island of New Zealand.
The light my camera captured of the Milky Way’s galactic center is approximately 27,000 years old. That means this light would have left the galactic center of the Milky Way during the late stone age period here on earth - long before there was any modern day lighting like we see emitting from the towns below the Milky Way in this photograph.
